Layzr.js works by telling the user's browser to postpone the loading of image files shown out of the viewport, delaying them to the moment when the user scrolls down the page and the images either enter the page or come to rest near the viewport's boundary.

By doing this, developers will reduce the amount of time needed to load a Web page, skipping non-essential files that are not visible on screen.

The Layzr.js library works on its own, being dependency-free and framework agnostic.

With the help of a custom data attribute developers can control what images are to be lazy-loaded, allowing them to leave certain images alone and be loaded with the page's source.

Support for callback functions and Retina imagery is also included.
