Manual Labor

Simple PDF compilation for Mac OS X

What all is this, then?

Like many of my little utilities, this grew out of my own need. I'm trying to reduce the amount of paper clutter in my home and had scanned a manual for a product I don't use often but still wanted for reference. Apple's Preview application included with OS X lets you assemble individual pictures into a PDF but it can be tedious for a lot of pages and for some reason was forcing each page after the first to have a border that I didn't want. So I wrote Manual Labor to do what I wanted and then added a few more niceties thinking other people might find it useful, too.

How do I use it?

Drop a folder (or more than one) onto the icon or the window, or use the Select Image Folder… command in the File menu. A PDF will be generated for each dropped folder. You'll be asked where you want the PDF saved, and offered the option to include the contents of subfolders and to generate an outline.

How do I get support?

Write to me at support@splook.com with the phrase "Manual Labor" in the subject line. There's a command in the help menu for it. I'm generally very timely in responses and open to constructive criticism.

How do I register?

Until Manual Labor is registered, generated PDFs will be limited to 10 pages. I accept payments via PayPal or mail. My PayPal ID is gweston@mac.com and postal address is:

Greg Weston
PO Box 54
Avon CT 06001-0054
USA

The license fee is $10. Once you have a license code, use the Register… command in the Manual Labor menu to enter it and remove the page limit.

What's up with the icon?

Sophomoric humor. Cheese is a binder.
