Mail Log Help

Mail Log is for reading syndicated content in Apple's Mail.app.

Mail Log must (currently, at least) be used with Apple's Mail application. When you update Mail Log, assuming there are no errors, you will see nothing happen. This is because all of your newly syndicated content is now waiting to be viewed in Mail.

Why doesn't the content show up in Mail Log?

There are plenty of stand-alone RSS readers for OS X, but Mail Log is not one of them. The goal of Mail Log is to simplify RSS viewing by putting the content into the familiar interface of an email application. RSS and email are functionally quite similar, and Mail Log builds upon the similarities to give you something new in a familiar interface. Other benefits of Mail include the ability to easily email content to other people or reply directly to the author via email, and the ability to use Mail's built-in content filtering and search capabilities.

How do I use Mail to read my content?

After running Mail Log, you should see a folder named "Mail Log" within Mail. All of your content from Mail Log will be saved within this folder. You may need to refresh a folder to see new content. You can do this by viewing a different folder, and then returning to the Mail Log folder. For information on how to use Mail in general, see the documentation that comes with Mail.

Where did my old content go?

It's gone. The contents of the "Mail Log" folder will be updated every time you update in Mail Log. If you want to save something in that folder, move it to a different folder before updating in Mail Log.

Why can't I email the author of this content? Who is "unknown@unknown"?

Not every RSS feed contains the email address of the author. If Mail Log is unable to find an email address, unknown@unknown is used. If Mail Log does find an email address, it will use it without any verification. So if a bad email address is provided, Mail Log will pass that bad email address right on to you. If you have a problem with this, track down the author of the RSS feed, and ask them to provide a valid email address in their feed.
