Mail Log HelpMail Log is for reading syndicated content in Apple's Mail.app. |

To start using Mail Log, you first need to locate some sources. These sources must be syndicated in RSS format, and they should be something you're interested in reading. If you don't already know what RSS is, you should probably read about that first. But if you already read a web site regularly using a web browser, and you know the site has a syndication feed, you just need to track down the URL of that feed and copy it into Mail Log. What is RSS?RSS allows you to syndicate websites in a common format, so your computer can go get content for you, rather you doing it yourself. Here are some websites which explain RSS further:
Where can I find RSS sources?First, any site with a link that says "RSS" or "XML" probably has an RSS feed. Failing that, you can search syndic8.com, which has a fairly comprehensive list of RSS sources. What do I do if the site I want to read doesn't have an RSS feed?Send them emails politely explaining that they will gain readers if they syndicate. Wait. What do I do after I find an RSS feed? After you find an RSS feed, copy the URL (address) of the feed. Then in Mail Log, click on the Sources->New Source menu option. Then edit the new source by selecting it and clicking the Sources->Edit Source menu option. In the Source URL field, paste the RSS URL. This is also a good time to give the source a title. The next time you update, you should see the new content appear in Mail. |
